The five-minute brief before a wash

Give the person washing the car the information that a quick glance cannot reveal. Preparation matters more than choosing a package name.

What changes the plan

01

Identify the surface before any work begins. Tell the provider about paint-protection film, a wrap, matte sections, recent paintwork or an existing coating if these are known. If you do not know the finish, ask the owner or installer rather than guessing. A service described as premium is not automatically compatible with every surface or warranty condition.

02

Walk around the vehicle together and point out existing chips, lifting film edges, loose trim and marks you want assessed. Photograph the condition with permission and agree what is included. Cleaning and correcting a defect are different jobs; do not let an uncertain stain become an unapproved polishing or chemical treatment. Ask the provider to stop and contact you if the proposed work changes.

03

Remove personal belongings and explain any areas that should not be opened or treated. Confirm the key handover, collection window and where the car will wait afterward. For a rental vehicle, follow the operator’s cleaning requirements rather than ordering optional treatments yourself. Keep the receipt and the agreed scope, especially if the provider noticed a pre-existing issue.

Editorial standard

Preparation and decision support, not a repair manual or a verified directory of workshops. Follow the vehicle and finish manufacturer’s instructions; ask the owner before treating a rental vehicle.

Useful first: specific decisions, disclosed sources where facts can change, and no paid ranking disguised as advice.
